SPORTS MEETINGS
POLICY NEXT SEASON
During a discussion at the meeting of delegates to the Wellington-Amateur Athletic Centre, last evening on whether a shield that had been offered- for. competition among the clubs in parades held as an opening ceremony to sports meetings Bhould-be accepted, the-question ol what the policy of the centre is likely to be'in regard to the. class and. number or -sports meetings next season was introduced. It was pointed out that most ot the meetings held last season had not been a success financially, and that the centre could not afford to go on losing money on afternoon meetings.- ■ •The chairman (Mr. A. C. K.xtto) said he did not know just what was going to happen next season. Mr D. Paris: "We will have at least two afternoon meetings, wont we—the provincial championship meeting and at least one other?" Mr Kitto said he thought that there would be two afternoon meetings at any rate The experience of the past season had shown that the centre could not continue running meetings at a Joss. Clubs would have to come in and take some responsibility. He added that it-appeared to him that too many events had been included in the programmes ior the evening meetings, and as a result they had been made costly. One club was fortunate in striking two meetings on which it made money. His opinion was that some "pooling" system among the clubs should be adopted. .. ' . /■
