SPENDING THE MONEY
A TOfARU SUGGESTION
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) 'TIMAEU, This Day. The Timaru North-end Ratepayers' Association last night passed the following resolution:— "That this association is of opinion that, as far as possible; moneys collected for relief purposes should be spent in the towns in which they are collected, and goods which arc tho product of those towns be sent and that united action on.this matter should bo taken." It was pointed out that in the case of Timaru, biscuits, boots, flour, wheat, bricks, and meat and dairy produce could be, sent to Hawkes Bay. If this policy w.is carried out throughout the Dominion it would tend to prevent funds from being concentrated and expended In any. one area to .the detriment of others; and would also ensure a proportionate distribution of expenditure. I'u'this way financial assistance for tho relief of unemployment would bo obtained for each contributing area. The Mayor is to bo asked to extend an invitation on behalf of the people of Timaru to tho local authorities in the earthquake area offering to accommodate women and children for a period of three months. The association guaranteed :to accommodate one hundred persons. ,
