SHIPPED AT WELLINGTON
Good progress is reported in connec-. tion with tho shipping from Wellington of the frozen meat lying in the Hawkes Bay freezing works at the time of the earthquake. The Pakipaki works were cleared out last week, and 25,000 freight carcasses had arrived at Wellington by rail on Saturday to bo loaded on to the ■Commonwealth and Dominion liners Port Frcmantle and Port Dunedin. ' ' In addition a start was made yesterday morning to bring the meat from the W.ikatu and Tomoana works, which are estimated to contain altogether about 130,000 freight carcasses. As stated in "The Post" on Saturday, fat stock from Hawkes Bay is being sent to different meat works in tho Wellington Province to be dealt with, and the first ; consignment of these, about 1800 sheep, arrived at Wellington to-day, to be slaughtered at Petone. During the next few weeks heavy traffic is expected on the railway lines connecting the Hawkes Bay district with . Palmerston, Wanganui, and Wellington, transporting fat stock to the slaughter-houses.1 All the meat being shipped is being inspected by officials of the Agricultural Department, in addition to the usual inspection by the ships! refrigerating: engineers, who make sure/that all frozen meat is in perfect condition before they will allow it to be taken ion board and become their responsibility. "The meat'coming to Wellington is turning out in wondcrfuU condition," remarked an official of one, of the shipping companies, and he also mentioned that so long as the power/held good matters at the works wollld proceed very satisfactorily. '
