The Director-General of Health, Dr. Watt, during a visit to Palmerston North', inspected the facilities ■ provided for earthquake refugees her&.He stated that the Hawkcs Bay Hospital Bo,ard realises that private medical nursing practice is non-existent,, and that arrangements have been made to nationalise theso professional services there until the period of emergency ends. Doctors and nurses have been ejigaged in a full timp capacity by the Health Department. . . "They have done splendid extraordinary work," said Dr. Watt. "The machinery of the Palmerston North Hospital, Board has proved particularly effective. No matter how many patients"' there had been, this board has always been ready to take them or arrange for their disposal among other institutions. The whole of the Palmerston North Hospital staff—doctors, nurses, and managing, secretary (Mr. Phillips)—have done excellent work under a very efficient organisation, and I cannot speak of their work in too high terms of praise." The Health Department has detailed Dr. Findlay as medical officer and inspector to supervise sanitation and the general health facilities at the Show Grounds.
