BASELESS RUMOUR
REFUGEES NOT CHARGED'
The rumour has been spread that refugees havo been charged railway faTes from Hastings to Wellington and other places on tho line. , This, it was ascertained upon inquiry this morning, has not been the case, the Railway Department, motor services, and shipping companies talcing away rcfugeos with' no thought o¥ making /profit for themselves. 1 What gave riBC to this rumour has been the fact that railway travellers reforming-from Hawkes Bay after a hurried trip there to inquiro aftcf relatives have joined the train iit Palmeiston North or other-stations, and they naturally have boen ch'argcd the usual fares. Unfortunately there are always some who will take advantago of the :misfortune of others, and several eases have been known during ( tho last few days of people endeavouring to get to Napier and Hastings and back on a freo sight-seeing trip.
