For the Second Time. Tho Navy Loague .Street Day has been set down for the 27th of this month, and it has been decided to make a specially big campaign to devote the whole of the proceeds to the earthquake fund. This is the second occasion on which the Navy League has givou its streot-day collection for earthquake relief. Two years, ago the annual street effort had,, just been 'completed, and a further canvass for funds was in hand when the Murchison earthquake occurred and the money was givon by tho Navy League to the funds raised for sufferers through that disaster. January's Weather. Conditions as regards crops and pastures underwent a considerable improvement during January owing to the increased rainfall, states tho Director of Meteorological Services, Dr. X Kidson, in his summary for the Dominion. Even where the total precipitation was below the average and the Boils are deficient in moisture, considerable relief was brought by the general rains which accompanied several of tho storms. Much of tho vegetation extiibitcd springlike features for a second time this season. On the wholo the month was very stormy and wet. There was an unusual persistence of-strong north-west or westerly winds such as are usually characteristic of tho late spring months. Temperatures were bolow normal, especially in western districts!. A few frosts,wero experienced during the month, one on the 17th at Christchurch being tho severest over recorded iv January.
