ALL NELSON STIRRED
BELIEF FUNDS OPENED
(From Our Own Correspondent.) /NELSON, 6th February. Recalling the harrowing days experienced in this province in June, 1929, and realising what might have happened to the City of Nelson had the centre of- the Murchison earthquake been a little nearer the town, Nelson people are particularly distressed and shocked by the terrible calamity, which has befallen the towns and people of Hawkes Bay. Even to the smallest settlements in the district relief funds have been opened and resolutions of sympathy passed. Flags throughout the city and. district arc ilying at half-mast. The following resolution was carried by the Nelson City Council: —"That this council expresses its deep sympathy with the Mayors and councils of Napier, Hastings, Waipukurau, Dannevirkc, and Wairoa (in tho destruction and devastation suffered by their towns and people in the earthquake, and especially -with all those who have suffered bereavements and physical injury, and that copies of tho resolution be conveyed to the Mayors of the towns.'' _^________
