NOTES FROM AUCKLAND
v ELLEItSLIE AND TAKANJNI
(By Telegraph.) • (Special to "The Evening Post.") ti *v AUCKLAND, This Day. me weather and track conditions were excellent tor training operations at EllersJie this morning, yhen the course proper, with the flags'out ,20ft, and the No ■•> i grass weve available for fast work With a number of horses having a few days on ' the easy list there was not a great deal of galloping, although some interest was provided by horses with engagements at the country meetings to be held in the next few weeks. ' On the course proper Taneriri and Manawhemia were associated over a mile in ,1 mm 45 l-ssec. They were both lightly | weighted, and ran the first half-mile iii 50 3-ssec, and the second half in Hi 3-ssic. Both were doing it well at tile finish/I especially Manawhcnua, who came out very wide at the turn. Taneriri looks all the better for his racing at Takapuria and Mmiaw'henua is in .first-class order. Llano're (K. Gill) ran her first three furlongs in 37 l-ssec, and completed six furlongs in lmin 18sec. Llanore's efftirt at Takapuna was very disappointing, but there is nothing wrong with her condition, iiid she is being kept moving with a view Vj racing at Dargaville. -....■ .. . ; With L. Manson in the saddle, Hampton Park ran his first two furlongs in 25 sec, and was striding well within himself it the end of h've furlongs in lmin 5 1-5
sec. Hampton Park has engagements at Dargaville this month, and should have good prospects of winning a stake at tnc northern meeting. The two-year-olds Dark Marble and Bonny Lea displayed a nice turn ot speed over three furlongs, in 37 4-ssec, both working well. Dark Marble is on the improve, and Bonny Lea has been doing well since returning from a short spell a few weeks Bennie (Craddock), with Absent to assist over the last six furlongs, galloped seven furlongs in lmin 32 2-ssec, finishing slightly ahead of his companion. Bennie is to contest the hurdle race at Mata- ; mata, and should have a good chance if he jumps properly. 'What may be against him is lack of experience, but his exceli lent condition should be a factor in his favour. •■ AT TAKANINI. '-, Beautiful weather and a fast track at ■ Takanini this morning gave trainers an i opportunity to gallop their charges under 5 the best conditions. Practically all the 1 fast work was recorded on the outside grass. . , . ! In the Shade (Jones) was finishing a L little better, than Chief Joy (Inglis) at i the end of-six furlongs, run in lmin 16 , 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Both 1 horses did their, work well. Chief Jewel (Jones) gained an advantage at the start from Ammon Ra (Stew- ' art), and led him over five furlongs in .' lmin 3 2-ssec. As he made up some of his j leeway Ammon Ra's time would be Blight- - ly better. i Queen Afa~(Walter»)-was a neck in front of Columba (Stewart) at the end t of'half a mile smartly run in-50 2-ssec. Eaglet (Jones) jumped off better than '. Havaspot (Stewart), and beat him over \ six furlongs in lmin 15 2-ssec, a good gallop. ; ' King March (Jones) had nothing in " reserve, but he finished better than the f Chief Ruler—Peutetre filly (Stewart) at D the end of five furlongs in lmin 3 3-ssec. J. T. Jamieson has decided to take teams to both the Taranaki and Rotorua j Meetings. His candidates for Taranaki : will be In the Shade and Ammon Ra, and possibly Eaglet. The Rotorua team will - comprise Refresher,, Ti Tree," Clopton, ■ Smithficld, and King March, and one or • both the two-year-olds, Chief Jewel and ' Columba. . , . R. S.1 Baaby wjll ride In the Shade in the Tarart»ki Cup.
