STILL MORE EASILY

KAHIKATOA NOTCHES DOUBLE

Kahikatoa won the Gorge Handicap probably even more. easily than he won the open seven furlongs on the first day, and established his claim to be considered one o£ the most promising handicap three-year-olds about the southern end of the island at present. Gray moved him out smartly from tflie barrier, but then steadied

see to the running. He gave him his head approaching the distance, and the issue waa settled in shorter time than it takes to tell. He beat Tahoma by one and a-half lengths, Desert Song finishing fast into third place only a head further away. Best of the others were Bold Front, Rory Mor, Queen's Choice, and Head Serang. Kahikatoa, who was the sixth favourite to win during the day, was nearly £150 better backed than Desert Song, with Head Serang only a little less in demand. Tahoma paid more for second than the winner. Desert Song did not hold a good position early, or he would have been second. He finished very strongly, and so did Bold Front. Head Serang failed again after having every chance. Rory Mor came from well back in the straight, and should pick up a race during the holidays. The others _ raced disappointingly, particularly Dolomite, who was one of the last away, and never looked like improving. The winner Rave H. Gray his third success j during the day.
