FILM ACTIVITIES
A LOCAL NEWS-REEL
Mr. S. S. Crick, managing director of. the Fox Film Corporation (Australasia), Ltd., arrived in Wellington yesterday. Ho recently came from Sydney to discuss with New Zealaud film exhibitors -certain proposals which may have a far-reaching effect in the relations between distributing and exhibiting interests.
When speaking about the activities of the Fox Film Corporation, which recently purchased Hoyts' theatrical interests in Australia, Mr. Crick said plans had been completed for the production of. a complete full-length Australian and New Zealand news-reel. Encouraged by the great success of the recordiug plant which was brought to New Zealand early this year, the Fox Film Corporation had recently brought to Australia another travelling truck equipped with the latest plant. The new truck would be manned, by Australians trained by the men who had oper"ated the first camera car. The increased facilities would enable the Australian and New Zealand news-reel to be increased to approximately 1000 feet a week, allowing a wide variety of subjects to be covered. The new reel would start next month. In addition to this news-reel, and the two weekly international Fox movietone news features, it was proposed to release weekly a full-length Fox Movietone British news film. It was also hoped, he added, to use some of the Government scenic films in the production of "talkies" and to arrange with the Government to provide portion of the weekly news-reel.
