ST. MARY'S CONVENT
PUPILS' ENTERTAINMENT
The entertainment given last night in the Town Hall Concert Chamber by the pupils of St.^Mary's Convent in aid of the new college was an unqualified success, and all tho young .performers fully deserved the flowers and chocolates given them, and all the nice things said about them afterwards. There was plenty of variety in the programme, which opened with a piano quartette (Liszt's "Marcho Hongroise, No. 2") played vigorously by Aeila Patterson, Catherine Frost, Mary Blake, and- Peggy Woodward. Tho junior pupils then sang a delightful chorus about the toy balloons which each carried. Senior girls gave a graceful exhibition of drill, one lot with coloured hoops. Ismny M'llroy did a character sketch from'"The Quaker Girl," and again showed herself: a clever performer iv a recitation and character song, "The Maori Princess," which included a haka. The elder pupils presented two bright choruses, in one of which all the participants were realistically garbed as gipsies; the other, extremely successful, was taken from "The Geisha." Another piano quartet was the combined effort of Pamela, Beauchamp, Naomi Bright, Constance Lonergan, and Marie Fauve!, while Josie Doyle and Gwen Spurgin played as a duet Quilter's ''Fantasie sur un air original" with 'conspicuous ability. A clever little scene was entitled' "The Doll Shop," wherein Patricia M'Namara was a self-possessed shop assistant, and Pamela Beauchamp a clever solo dancer. A dozen or so small children made admirable dolls. "Miss Milligan's School" was a clever sketch which terminated the first half of the programme. The second part was taken up with "Every Girl," aa allegory. Herein parts were found for many of tho pupils, and there were ballets by the flowers, part songs, choruses, and solos. It was delightfully performed, and all acquitted themselves with credit. Tho accompanist throughout was Mrs. C. M'Donald, Miss Beorc boing responsible for tho dancing.
