A SPEEDY JUVENILE
RIGHBOBOUGH IS BRILLIANT
With a fine sustained challenge on. the outside down the long straight, Rich-' borough -tftiire the pacemakers down in the Nursery fliuidieap, and .snatched a •wellmerited victory Irom Royal Baby in the; last few strides. He gave the Elgar livery its second success of the day, and added; another ,to the long list of _ xwo-year-old winners of the season. He is a hay colt by Chief Ruler from the IvilbTcmey -mare Rosellate,.. and is thus a full-brother -to Tenterdien and half-brother to Archcria. IHe cost 1300 at the last Trentham sales, yesterday's win being his first return. .' It was a Tery ragged start, and the ones who had considerably the best of it were HaulbQwline, Interlocutor, Chief Cook, and Royal Baby, with Riehborough, All Huhibug, and Bed Eufus at the front of the others over the early stages. Interlocutor and Haulbowline were just ahead of Iloyal Baby at the straight entrance, but Chief Cook was close up and Kichboijough was corning .fast. Royal Baby took charge outside the distance and drew a-ssfty, but JKichbowmgh, continuing his ran, gave chase and caught her just on tbje post. Chief Cook was three lengths further away, and next were Interlocutor, St. Roger, Haulbowline, All Humbug, and Esteem. Esteem was nearly £100 better backed than Itoyal Baby. There was good support also for Haulbowline, St. Roger, and the Chief Cook—€hief Clerk bracket, who were evenly iancied. Esteem was one of the dozen whose chances were ruined at the start. Royal Baby carries the same colours as Gay Crest, and had some Taring at Randwiek: in the spring. She is a speedy £lly, and ran her best race to date. Hanlbowline,; from the rail position, was handed a wonderful opportunity by the starter, but was a big disappointment. St. Roger came fast, at the finish after not having been sighted till that stage. His chance also went at the start. A feature of the race was the fact that the three place-fillers were by Chief Ruler, who was the leading iire :of the Dominion last season.
