RACE IN DIVISIONS

ADELPHI AND EOTHEN SCORE

'Adelphi, tlie third member of the.team of four brought north'from Riccarton by T. Lloyd to bo produced, added to the success of Gay Crest and the second of Royal Baby by a good win in the first division of tlie Mangarawa Hack Handicap, while the Trentham-trained Kothen, who has made a lot of improvement lately, 'annexed the second . division even move easily. : . ' In the first heat Pass On, Adelphi, Patearoa, Shootist, and King Acre were the early leaders, but King Acre quickly improved and led Pass On, Adelphi, Patearoa, and Tahoma into the .straight: Adelphi:took, charge outside the distance, aud was not hard pressed to beat Tahoma home by a length. Patearoa was a neck further away third,' and then came Statuary, King Hal, Pass On, and W&terspear. In the second heat San Quexled out from Money Mint, Golden Shadow, Leyland, and Rotben, and when San Quex opened up a break Rothen was most persistent in pursuit and'followed her into the straight, with Leyland, Money Mint, and Golden Shadow nearest of the others. San Qnex was unable to withstand Rothen, who beat, her home by a length and a half, butjuPakitere, coming -with a late challenge/failed by naif a length to catch heir. Golden Shadow was fourth, and Money Mint, Leyland, and Dignified March next. Itothen was a somewhat better favourite than Statuary, and at a similar distance away Paldtere and Golden Shadow were almost equally in demand. King Acre and Adelphi were most wanted of the others.. Statuary suffered in a ragged dispatch, and when first sighted was a long way back in the field. He is improving. Pakitere also did not move away well in her division, in which there was a much more even start, and she had a lot of ground to recover in the straight Her third at the finish was therefore a highly creditable effort. Golden Shadow did not have too smooth a passage, and King Acre petered out badly in the run | down the straight in his division. |
