Nightmarch certainly gave Phar Lap a good start from the half -mile, where Burracootboo just led Phar Lap and' Weotara, with Income arid Nightmarch next. ; Phar Lap headed, off Burracootboo with ease .at the, turn, and :went on to win by any.margin. Nightmareh at one-stage did not look like beating the three-year-old Weotara,- but over the last bit forged ahead, to secure second money, while Concentrate was only inches away fourth. ■ Beed may..have, cut things fmej but as second money ,was the most expected, the majority of racegoers thought he roclc judiciously to spare his horse. Tho upshot might be that A. M' Auley will take Nightmai-ch back to New Zealand. With limitations placed on the handicapper in tho New Zealand Cup Kightmarch appears to have better prospects there. True Shaft also has been an absentee from the tracks lately.
