SENTENCE AT OLD BAILEY

The trial of Michael Dennis Coriigan, engineer ana racehorse owner,. at the Old Bailey, where he was sentenced ,fo five years' penal servitude Jot fraud, revealed an astonishing' record of crime.
Corrigaa, who now is forty-six years of age, represented himself ae. employed by the Standard Oil Company, at a salary of £56,000 a year. He obtained £18,000 from Mrs. Hatrold, whose daughter he also induced to become his mistress, Corrigan being already married.
Corrigan. first attracted police atteu - tion when he'was a second-grade steward on a steamship. He then Joined the Ministry of Munitions, where he called himself Major Cassidy. Later, for five years he exploited imaginary concessions in Yucatan, ruining several victims, his frauds exceeding £100,000. The Judge, in sentencing Corrigaii, said that the accused had been- guilty of bad and cruel frauds. Corrigan showed no mercy. One wealthy in an lo3t everything and was obliged to become a "clerk in an insurance office, while Corrigan lived in luxury at the best hotels in England and France. .
