There wts an attendance of about 20Q people at the annual meeting of the Wei* lington City Mission, held at the Trades Hall- last night. Canon P. James (vieai", of St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral) presided. ;',"■'-i They had passed through quite an event" ful year in the history, of the mission, stat* ed the missioner (the Rev. Fielden Taylor) in his annual report. There was no doubt that the spiritual standard, was being we.ll maintained,, and., they "were sure that the real strength of the Church was drawn from its communicant life. The mission service at the King's Theatre had"bee)i ; held throughout the year; and, while they '• had not got back to the one-time large attendance, there was a noticeable improvement.''■• The night school was quite the best attended of their weekly activi- ,' ties, and seemed to meet a real want. During the year twenty .of their boyshad passed the proficiency examination. At the end of the previous year their, best boys had left them for the Technical College night classes. The objective of the mission was to get the boy who had given up all idea of self-improvement and lead him on till he was willing to go on himself. He was. sprry to say 'that his one ever-present anxiety in regard to the mission Was money. He never had enough. Ifc was always necessary to turn down one worthy need or another. It was not that he valued' money for itself; but without it he could not. do the things ■he was trying to do. . ' .; . The following were elected as the Ad- - visory Committee:—Messrs. G. Clarke, *. Cole, H. Lauton, F. Sutler, W. M'Dowel, W Peterson, H. Sherring, 1. kicliol, Fuller, and W. Chown. . . "_; . . : ' The meeting passed a resolutioii_m' lavour of the establishment of a City Mission Band when finances permitted; _ and the attention of the trustees was drawn to the need for building at the earliest possible moment. •' ■
