IN TAUPO WATERS

SOME PINE FISHING

Some fine specimens of trout have been caught lately by anglers plying their rods in the Taupo Lake waters. Five, seven, eight and a half, and tenpounders have frequently been landed. The weather, which has been bad for some time, making fishing at Taupo and lokaanu disappointing, has now improved-, giving fishermen better opportunities to try thc-ir skill. In his reports to the Minister of Internal Affairs (tho Hon. P. A. d& la Perelle) the Conservator of Fish and Game at Kotorua states that the "tamiti" fly and the "inatuki" fly have been favourite baits. Several "limits" under tho regulations have been achieved by overseas and New Zealand fishermen. Trolling parties on the lake have obtained excellent results, considering tho past bad weather. Ono party trolling in Matuapa Bay secured 27 nice fish, averaging in weight five pounds, the heaviest being of ten pounds. The favourit "lie" for fly fishing appears to Tje in the Acacia Bay and off Eangitira Point, where several parties have landed good catches of. fish, weighing six, seven, and eight pounds.

Excellent bags have been obtained by fly-fishermen in the Waikato River, three "limits 1" having been taken in one week. As yet the Hat'epe and Tau-ranga-Taupo fishing grounds have been very disappointing, but the Conservator stated that it was confidently expected that they would come into their own later in the season.
