SANDERS CUP
THE BETTY NOMINATED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CIIEISTCHUKCII, This-Day.
The Betty has been nominated to support Canterbury's challenge for the Sander's Cup. At a meeting of the executive of the Sailing and Power Boat Association last evening Mr. I. G. Treleaven was appointed skipper. Mr. Treleaven has sailed as spinnaker hand for Canterbury at four contests, three times in the Betty and once in tho Colleen. He skippered the Betty in the Smith Cup race at Stewart Island in 1928 and sailed her in one cup race at Lyttclton in 1927. Ho has a long successful record in club races around Christchurch. Mr. Treleaven is probably the youngest man who has been given charge of a provincial representative at a Sanders Cup contest. The selection of the crew has been deferred. The Betty won tho third trial raco oii Saturday, proving superior to last year's representative, tho Colleen, both on and off the wind. A new suit of sails, ordered by Mr. G. Andrews, the owner, is due to arrive shortly. This should greatly improve the Betty's sailing.
The association has decided to Bupport strongly the proposal to form a Dominion, bod^ to control outboard motor boat racing.
