.ThevDepartment of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 7th December, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow. —No auction this week. Spot may be steady without material change in values. Rather more business in forward shipments. Eggs.—New laid and Danish fresh scarce. Other grades quietly steady at better prices. Present quotations are: English, 26s to 34s per long 100; Dutch, 22s to 265; Danish, 26s to 28s; Belgium, 15s to 225; Polish, 12s 9d to 13s 3d; South African and Australian, 16s 6d to 18s; New Zealand, 17s to 21s. Hemp.—Manila: After slight advance market eased under freer offers and limited demand, closing dull with value "3" grade for January-March shipment, £36. Sisal: Market quiet. No. 1 afloat quoted sellers £35; No. 2, £33 ss, January-March shipments not being freely offered. No. 1 .good marks valued at £35 15s to £365; No.. 2. £34 10s to £35. New Zealand: Market quiet. Shippers not offering and buyers holding bick. Nominal comparative closing values for December-February shipment are: Highpoints, £33;. fair, £29 10s; common, £28; tow, second grade, I £21; third grade, £18. Wool. —Sales closed 4th December. Ati tendance throughout satisfactory and competition generally well maintained. Continental buying prominent in merino section, Home trade taking bulk of New Zealand crossbred, chiefly slipe. Greasy in- small supply. Compared with closing rates last series, superior merino 10 per cent., medium and inferior 5 per cent., fine crossbred 7% per cent., medium and coarse crossbred 5 per cent, higher. Average closing values: 64's super, Is 5d to Is 7d per lb (nominal); average, Is o%d to Is 2%.d; 56's/58's. Is 4%d to Is 6Vad; sq's/56's, Is 4d to Is sd; 48/50's, Is 29id to Is 4d; 44/46'b. Is l%d^ to Is 2%d; 36/42's, Is Id to Is 2d. Slipe met good demand, but- fine halfbred lambs barely maintain last, gale level. Medium crossbred unchanged and coarse crossbred par to 5 per cent, higher; 126,000 bales catalogued, of which 108,000 sold, Home trade taking 49,000 and Continent 60,000. Oats.—Poor demand. English difficult to sell on account of the decline in imported. Fine white offered at 22s 6d to; 235. German for December shipment I offered at 19s. Late new crop for February shipment sold at 18s 4%d. Chilean for March shipment quoted sellers 21s 3d, ouyers 20s 9d. Nominal value New Zea-i land "A" grade Gartons, 22s to 245, ex store; December shipment, 24s 6d. • Peas.—Maples: Slow. English supplies sufficient for present demand, and good samples offered at 48s to 50s. No. 1 New Zealand for November-December shipment offered at 59s and new crop for March-April shipment at 61s, but little interest shown. Small business reported in new crop "A" grade Tasmanian. for Febr.uary-March shipment at 67s Id with) sellers over. Blues: Dutch have declined 20s to 30s during the month. Nominal value New Zealand, ex store, £13 to £14. Beans: Demand has been affected by depreßsed state of, feeding stuffs. English supplies not too plentiful. Good winter offered at 48s to 495, and old crop spring at 335. Little better inquiry tor spot Chinese horse at about £9 17s Cd per ton. No demand for forward shipment. Danish cocksfoot: Market has advanced in consequence of short supplies; £5 c.i.f. now asked. . The Bank of New South Wales has been advised from its London office by cable as^ follows:— "Wool sales closed • good general competition, prices 5 per cent, dearer than October." .Mutton: Ewes, 4d, 4.5-BJ, steady wethers, ■ 5%d, 6%d, .little better demand; lamb, 7d, B%d, affected by heavy supplies Australian.
