WOMEN'S DIVISION, FARMERS' UNION.
Mrs. J..D. Hall presided over a meeting of about 35 women who were interested in the project of forming a ■Women's Division of' the Farmers' Union in Canterbury, the meeting being held at the Y.W.C.A., Christehurch. Mrs. C. C. Jackson, the Dominion president, described the formation of the division in the North Island, and said that'the membeTshifrwa's -now''47oo, and the last annual conference was attended by 130 delegates. The special aims of the division were to strengthen the Farmers' Union; to better .the. conditions of women and children in the isolated parts of the.country, districts; to improve medical aiid nursing facilities in country districts!; and to provide temporary help in backbleck homes in times of illness, absence of the mother, or in exceptionally" busy times such as shearing, harvesting", etc. Mrs. Jackson spoke sympathetically of the unceasing work and—loneliness of .-some jof the wom~eri,"and of the sadness of some of their conditions,-, especially in cases of bad health. Ai; the conclusion of Mrs. Jackson's address it was decided to form a branch of,the Women's Division hrChristcliurch.'- Mrs. J. D. Hall was elected presidentj-.Mrs. E. E. Alexander, and Mrs; :M.-.Bethell vice-presi-dents, and Mrs. Gilbert honorary secretary and treasurer. On the motion of Mrs. H. A. Kniglrt/a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Jackson for her interesting and informative address.
