COAL MINING RETURNS.
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. With the object of showing the value of the coal industry, Mr. W. A. Flavell, general manager of the Westport Coal Co., has prepared some interesting figures. These figures, which show that large sums of money were distributed during the year as the result of the company's operations, are as follow:—Output of company's mines, 391,425 tons; amount paid in wages, £25,917 17s 6d; paid to Government on account of railway haulage at Westport, royalties, rates, and taxes, £116,148 4s sd; paid in steamer freights, £15,223. <
