GETTING THINGS DONE
AIM OF GOVERNMENT
COMING LEAGUE ASSEMBLY
Australian. Press Association, (Beceived 12th June, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, 11th June.
There are, already indications that the League Assembly at Geneva on 2nd September will bo of absorbing-inter-est. The'mere fact that Mj\ MaeDonald is' going in addition to Mr. Henderson, whose chief platform is" world pacification, indicates that disarmament is going to be a big subject. A well-informed authority told the Australian' Press Association that Britain was going to make a strong effort to extricate the subject from the realm of academic discussion , and got something practical done. In this matter Mr. MaeDonald will have the strong support of the smaller States, which laßt year vainly tried to have a definite date fixed for a world disarmament conference. :
The Australian Press Association notes an undercurrent of German anticipation that things are going to be accelerated; likewise some anxiety in France that the Assembly may mistakenly take the bit in its teeth. Profound interest will attach to the policy of the British Empire bloc, especially in the light of the Protocol blunders narrowly averted in 1924. ■
