SAVING A HALF PER CENT.
DAIEY BOARD AND LONDON MERCHANTS.
"The London distributors (writes the N.Z. Dairy Producers' Board in its annual report) have agreed to handle all the'board's work in future for a 2 per cent, commission, thus saving -J per cent, to the industry. This will not involve a smaller net return to the merchants, as they aro being relieved of the necessity of the maintenance of agents in New Zealand, which averagely has cost thorn more than the § per cent, conceded. The arrangements made by the board guarantees the merchants an assured supply, provided their servico is satisfactory, which is an advantage to sound business they have not previously enjoyed. On an export valuo basis of £20,000,000 this •J per cent, represents £100,000. This will not bo wholly saved, however, as certain ossontial work previously done by- the agents has to be arranged for. Staff appointments have already been made in readiness for the task. It may here be recorded that the board's staff has at all times rendered enthusiastic assistance, and is preparing for the enlarged tasks with a zeal that must overcomo all obstacles."
The levy of l-16th of a penny per lb on butter and 1.32 nd of a penny per lb on cheese, less chargo made by the Customs Department for collection, has amounted to £ 52,981 19s lid. Tho sum of £30,905 has been placed to the board's reserve account, and there remains as accumulated funds tho sum of £38,368 11s 6d.
