NOT UNEXPECTED
ME. W. GOODFELLOW INTER-
VIEWED,
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Interviewed in connection with the butter slump, Mr. W. Goodfellow, managing director of the New Zealand Co- ! operative Dairy Company, said that the collapso had not been altogether unexpected. "It is due," said Mr. Goodfellow, "to the fact that a number of factories have been in the habit during past years of placing selling limits on their produce without possessing the knowledge of market conditions necessary to estimate what constitutes a reasonable limit." As to the prospects of the Control Board reviewing tho scale of its butter-fat payments, Mr. Goodfollow pointed out that the month's payments, due on 20th September, would not be affected, and it wits premature to speculate upon what the position might be a month later. By that time tho stored stocks, encouraged by low rates, would probably have gone into consumption, and the determining factor for the now season's produce would be the exportable output from Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Goodfellow mentioned that his latest advices wore to the effect that cohcJltions in New South Wales and Victoria were normal, but that Queensland waa having a dry spell. Present indications were for a largely-increased export from Australia and New Zealand, particularly th^ former.
