Generally, fair to mild weather has prevailed during the week-end, and there has been a decrease in barometric pressure, bringing freshening northerlies and westerlies. Rain fell in various parts of the country during the night. A storm area iB apparently developing to the westward .of Cook Strait, and variable to strong win_s are forecasted, westerlies backing to southerlies northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and south-easterlies elsewhere shortly. The barometer is due. to fall further, and rain is expected after sixteen hours. Unsettled to cloudy weather is forecasted with heavy rain probable generally, and rivers rising in tho North Island and the north-eastern districts of the South Island. -Snow is expected on the higher levels.
