EQUIPMENT.

It is now nearly six months since tho Mayoress of Eastbourne (Mrs. H. M. Jones) first interested herself on behalf of the Eastbourne Fire Brigade, which has been —and is still, in fact— handicapped by a lack of equipment necessary for adequate fire-fighting Mrs. Jones appointed a small but energetic committee of ladies to help augment the funds that- the brigade was attempting to raise for the purchase of , equipment, and a plan of campaign was drawn up terminating with a sale of I work last Saturday. The ladies' comI mittee must be congratulated on the result of its labours, for a sum of over £140 has been raised towards the fund. Th(. ladies' effort has been concluded with the following result:—Sale.of tickets, £.1 10s; sale of goods at wharf, £17 10s lid; sale of goods from stalls, £39 8s 7d; donations, £19 7s; entertainments, £20 17s; goods sold, £26 14s 7d; tickets sold, £26 3s 6d; goods on hand, £19; total, £170 lis 7d; less total expenses, £28 lis 7d; total net profit, £142. These figures are subject to audit. The total fund, which will include the ladies' contribution, will be spent on the most up-to-date equipment possible, the purchasing of which will be in the hands of Superintendent Craik, head of the Wellington Brigade, Superintendent Hugo, and Mr. Watt, of the Fire Board. \ Mrs. Jones, now that the ladies' part of the collection has practically ended, desires to thank all those who assisted, either "with donations, goods, or personal service, especially the Boy Scouts, who rendered excellent service on several occasions, Mr. Austen Blackio, who organised a very successful concert which netted £16 lis 6d, and Mr. and Mrs. Savage, who gave the proceeds of a picture entertainment amounting to £4 5s 6d.
