A POOR GAME.

It would hardly be possible to imagine a worse display of Rugby on the part of senior players than that given by Marist and Petone before a handful of spectators at the Petone Recreation Ground on Saturday. The conditions were ideal for football, but neither side showed anything like form, especially in back play. Petone were without the services of M. Nicholls, who is still limping badly, and Marist were minus several regular players. Marist were tho victors by 11 points to 8, and on the run of the play they deserved their win. Marist made the pace from the kick-out, and for a period Petone were defending hard. A dribbling rush by Spence and the Thomas brothers broke through the Marist defence, and A. Thomas scored. H. E. Nicholls failed to convert. Just before half-time a smart passing bout by the Petone backs resulted in A. Thomas getting his second try. Spence converted: Petone 8, Marist 0. A rush by the Marist forwards caught the Petone men out of position, and King scored under' the posts, for Murphy to convert. Corner was injured, and, on his retiring, Thomas went into the back line, leaving the pack one man short. A fine try by Condon on the long blind side equalled the scores, and just before time Mahoney cut out a man and let Graham in. Thus the game ended: Marist 11, Petone S. Mr. I). Calcinai was the referee.
