BRONZE MEDAL

« AWABDED TO SAVER OF LIFE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Ist September. Advice was to-day received in Auck land by Mr. A. E. Eagleton, local re presentative of the Royal Humane Society, that the Board of Directors has awarded Horace E. Vail, of Stanley Bay, the society's bronze medal for rescuing L. A. M'Lean from drowning at Stanley Bay on 20th May last. Mr. M'Lean is an old employee of the Devonport Terry Company, and was thrown into the sea during a storm when a ferry boat pulled part of a wharf away. ■\Vhen he was in grave danger of drowning, Mr. Vail jumped overboard from the boat and rescued Mr. M'Lean, who himself considers that he owes his life to Mr. Vail. The medal will be publicly presented to Mr. Vail at an early date.
