SUPERANNUATION
RETIRED PUBLIC SERVANTS. The.annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the Association of Federated Superannuated Public Servants of New Zealand took place at the Dominion Farmers' Buildingj^ou Tuesday afternoon, ■when there was" a representative gathering of ex-public servants. In the absence of the president, who is confined to his room by illness, the chair was occupied by Mr. GirlingButcher, sen., vice-president. The annual report, which has already been published, and the balance-sheet, which showed a healthy financial position, were read and adopted. The chairman, in his address, congratulated the association upon the good work accomplished during the year, the increase in membership, and the greater interest now being taken by all in the welfare of more particularly those in receipt of small allowances. Tho association had reason to bo grateful to, and heartily thanked, the secretaries of both the Public Service and the Kailway Superannuation Boards . frf.- courtesies and such assistance as they were able to ■mder. The clauses in the current year's Finance Act referring to superannuation were touched upon, and the interest taken in the subject by many members of Parliament was gladly acknowledged. The delegates from the Christchurch and Auckland branches, Messrs. Fowke and Makin, expressed tho great appreciation of their members of the excellent work of the Dominion executive and its officers. The following remits were forwarded for discussion:—Auckland: "That superannuation be no.t counted as income when applying for the old age pension, ac it is not counted as income under tho National Provident Fund." —Carried. "That -.11 persons receiving superannuation be allowed £100 per annum when their present superannuation is below that amount, and that the sum of £100 be fixed as the minimum allowance. "—•■ Carried. Wellington.—''That tho Government be requested to place the superannuatod Public Service men and single women, on the same footing as the widows and children by making their cost-of-living bonus permanent."—Carried. Excellent reports were received as to the progress numerically, anc from the point of general interest, from all the branches represented.
