■ * AT 5J PER CENT. AN ITEM FROM AUSTRALIA. The Melbourne "Argus" of 26th August states: —"Advice' received by Messrs. J. B. Were and Son, from Wellington, is-to the offoct that the New Zealand Government 5i per cent, loan, which has been on tap there for some eight months, will cease to be available on 31st August. The stock has a currency of ten years from Ist February last. The intention is that from Ist September a fresh stock to carry interest at 5J arid having a currency of five years shall be availabl for sale over the Treasury counter."
