CHARGE OF DRUNKENNESS DISMISSED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAMILTON, 31st August. A remarkable case was heard in the Magistrate's Court this morning, when a man was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a car. He was ordered by a constable to drive to the police station, and was there arrested. Despite the evidence of three constables that the defendant was drunk, the Magistrate dismissed the case, saying that the defendant's senses had not been sufficiently impaired, as to render him incapable of driving a car. His condition at the station was attributed to his concern at being arrested and the fact that he was slightly deaf.
