SEIZURE OF PETROL
STORAGE IN UNLICENSED
PREMISES.
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
CHEISTCHUBCH, 31st August.
In future persons storing petrol on unlicensed premises are liable to lose it. At the City Council meeting last evening the Bylaws Committee made the following reference to the matter: — "On sth August Inspector Peek seized 7i cases of motor spirit, stored, in unlicensed premises in Papanui, and on 18th August the owner of the petrol was convicted and fined 10s. The value of the petrol is about £6, and the committee has written to the Minister asking permission to return it to the owner.
"As the committee is of opinion that the public have been sufficiently warned against the storage of petrol without a license, it considers that the time has arrived when petrol seized by officers of the council should be forfeited, and recommends that the inspector be instructed to apply to the Magistrate for an order to this effect, in any future case."
The clause was adopted.
