LAND SETTLEMENT IN HUTT VALLEY.
A measure to amend the Hutt Valley Land Settlement Act was introduced in the House of Representatives early this morning by Governor-General's Message.
The Minister of Lands (the Hon. A. D. M'Leod) said that the chief and only purpose of the amendment was to facilitate the quick handling of the Hutt Valley settlement lands. The land was dealt with -under separate enactments, and certain conditions were omitted when the main Bill was before Parliament, including certain procedure under the Land Act affecting ballotiug and a provision that if land was put up for sale by auction and was not purchased it had to remain unselected for three months before it could be dealt with again.
