"HARDLY PLAYING THE GAME."
"I hardly think it is playing the game," remarked the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland) in the House of Representatives last night, when it was announced that the discussion on Imperial affairs was not to be taken that night, as promised by the Prime Minister. Mr. Holland said that members had come along prepared with speeches on Imperial matters, and not for. the Finance Bill, which was the first item on the Order Paper. The Prime Minister had made a definite statement to the -effect that the Imperial Conference debate would take place that night, and he had given no indication that other business would be taken.
The Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Downie Stewart), who was in charge of the House in the absence of the Prime Minister, stated that he understood the debate would come on later in the week.
