LOWEE HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The first meeting of th 6 Lower Hutt Borough Council for the current ■"■■year was held last evening. Present': Mr, W ■T Strand (Mayor),, and Councillors w! Meldrum, E. W. Hunt, J. Mitchell, H. «. Teagle, L. T.. Watkins, and-A. J. Hobbs. ■-■ • . ■ - Tlie Lands and' Survey Department ' advised that the track- through' secti 3 ns diand 94, Normaridale, was; already under the control of the council, .but. that the council could not be compelled to expend money either for formation- or maintenance work. It was decided to obtain the opinion' of €h te Borough Solicitor with regard to the .council's liability m case of an accident' through the track not being iii order.;"' The council, confirmed 'its previous to take over the two sections as"'a domain. . : ' , The Health Department advised that' the regulations governing the cDntrol of V eating houses now applied to all boroughs. ' ... ... -. The Wellington Education Board" expressed its thanks for the disinfecting 01 the local school by the council, free of charge. :' ' The Wairarapa Automobile, Association asked for assistance in fencing the Eimutaka. Hill road. It was decided on the-motion of Councillor; Hobbs-sec-onded by Councillor Hunt, to reply' that ' £10 would be donated1-for this purpose during the_next financial year. ?; • Mr. 1. N. Johnston was 'granted Der-
mission to erect a dwelling in wood in Kailway avenue. On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to offer Mrs. Harrison £10 for an 18-feet strip of land in-Fry's lane the council to accept liability to put thejStreet in order at i£s convenience. ±ne laita CemetSry Board asked-'for a donation of £100 to its funds. On'the motion of Councillor Hobbs. it was decided to pkce the sum of £100 on next I year s. preliminary estimates. - :■■• . The council decided to adhere ;to its previous , decision to require per. ;"p~ay ™.™t for work done for .private mdi The Works Committee reported that the work on the western septic tank outfall was of an urgent nature, and it w;;s decided to have it put in hand as scon as plans and specifications were prepared, which the engineer said would be within a week. In the meantime the tank is being pumped out daily. ' .' Other urgent loan .works which on the recommendation of-the'Works Committee will shortly be proceeded w-ith are the forming of foothpaths and the JNormandale- culverts: . .. With, regard- to other works, the plans and specifications were, the Works Committee reported, " being ' prepared with a schedule giving the order of procedure. , * The Finance Committee recommended tne acceptance of the offer of the Petonp and. Hutt Gas Lighting, Board of ■ 150 chains of 3-inch mains, at 50 per cent off present day costs. , ,- ■; ' The Borough Engineer, Mr -E : J Barnes, reported that the work of'tarl nng the footpaths would be completed by the week-end. This would put the paths in condition to carry on for a year solely for loan work.
