WANGANUI, 20th January. Wanganui on Saturday began the defence of the Hawke Cup for the third time this season, in a match against Nelson.

Wanganui, in the first innings, made 152, Nelson replying with 195. Wanganui, m the second innings, have lost six ■ wickets for 68 runs. Wood (14) and London (27) were the only players to se\cure double figures. Bowling^ for Nelson, Newman took three wickets for 26 runs, and Hawkes one for 31.
