OIL INTERESTS
PROPOSAL TO DISPOSE OP ANGLO-PERSIA^ SHARES.

LONDON, 17th January. In^ reply to a question in the House of Commons as to whether anything ,liad been done with a view to the sale of the Government holding of the Anglo-Persian Oil Corporation shares, Mr. Neville Chamberlain said that I eighteen months ago a proposal to sell the shares was rejected on the recommendation of the Cabinet Committee. Recently further proposals by various oil interests had been submitted, but the Government had not had time to reach a final decision. It intended to refer the matter to the Cabinet Comi mittee. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in the House of Com- ! raons, stated that the Cabinet " Committee recommended eighteen months ago the sale of the Government's shares in the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, but ob 17th December Cabinet rejected the rccommendatibn. A similar proposal was recently submitted on behalf of various oil interests. Tho Government had intended appointing another Cabinet Committee to consider the matter.
A cable received yesterday "stated that tho Burmah Oil Company has reopened its proposals to acquire the Government's Anglo-Persian shares after fusion with tho Dutch Shell Company. They will undertake to meet the Admiralty's requirements it tho Anglo-Persian Company fails to do so.
