PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
A race at the provincial championships on Saturday that should produce one of the finest contests of recent years is the iiQ yards. The field will include W. Candy, of Masterton, the present New Zealand champion; the Christchurch boy,. Ridgen, who has been running exceedingly ■ well this season, his wins including the 600 yards championship of the province in lmin 16-4-ssec (a great run fora boy of his age); E. Scott, of Hawera, who wis reputed last year to 'be tho Dominion's best quarter-miler; the two Gullys, of Masterton; Hunter, of Levin, who ran so well here in December; and Sullivan, of Marist Old Boys. The last-named, who i s trained by Ered Juno, last appeared at the Caledonian Meeting on Boxing Day, when he put up a sterling performance by . winning the half-mile .from virtual scratch, in lmin S9sec. Altogether, there are 18 .entrants for this race, which should provide a great spectacle from gun to tape. All those mentioned are capable of beating 53sec. There will be many other attractions.
