FIVE HUNDRED SHOP WINDOW SHOWS
Apart from all the big " stunts " of the week, visitors^ and Wellington people too, will find very much to interest them in the specially-arranged shop window displays, for tho Carnival Committee scheme in promoting display competitions has borne good fruit. Wellington business people rather pride themselves on the fact that their windows are as bright and attractive as any in the Dominion, but those who have joined in the competition have laid themselves out to make their shop fronts well worth ten minutes of the time of tho passer-by. .Bright lights .and judicious arrangements of goods are making the evenings so much the brighter' and the afternoon walk through town so much the more interesting. . Cuba street shopfolk have laid plans for a community effort, as it were, and have furbished that busy thoroughfare up in very attractive style, and, moreover, have initiated a shop competition of their own, but in that tho prizes will go to those who gaze and not to those who make the displays. The official display competition has been divided up into sections. Section A, 'drapers, mercers, fancy goods, boots and shoes, and furnishings, which will be judged by Mrs. J. .-Tripe (th 9 wellknown artist), Mr. Chas. Young (manager of Macky, Logan, and Caldwell, Ltd.). and J. Sykes (secretary of the Federated Drapers). Section B, grocers, butchers, bakers, confectioners, fruiterers, pastrycooks, etc., to be judged by Messrs. H. 11. Bennett and Bonnet-. Section C, ironmongers, jewellers, tobacconists, and general, to b 0 judged by Mr. Girling M.P., and Mr. T. Cox. Tho judges" anticipate that they will be able to make their awards by Wednesday. . Tho executive of the Carnival Committee makes th 0 request that business people, Government Departments, and others shall fly as much bunting as possible during the week, and so brighten up the city,, to get th 6 carnival spirit going and keep it going.
