DANCE RECITALS AT OPERA HOUSE
The attendance at matinee and evening performances at the Grand Opera House on Saturday were not commensuratewith the quality of the entertainment. Those who were present were treated to a delightful blend of song, dance, and recitation, all a happy augury for Welcome Week. In the afternoon,- Miss Beere had organised a fine programme, in which*juveniles_ from the dance and elocution studios in Wellington represented their teachers with distinct credit. Among those who performed in the afternoon were the Misses Molly Thompson and -Jean Coker (pupils of Mr. Culford Bell);' Sinclair Breen as solo dancer in the Huntsman Ballet (pupils of Miss May Harris); Betty Menard in recitation; Misees Joyce Julian and Ngaire Phipson. complimented their teachers, Misses Williams and Gibbs ; Elsie Cross, pupil of Mr. Culford Bell, and PeggieBaker,- soloist in the Folly Ballet from Miss May 'Harris's studio. Zena Jupp, a pupil of Mrs. Culford Bell, recited well. Menard's Studio was represented in ballots by Misses Eileen Searle. Phyllis Martin; .Mavis Sawyer, Olive Sawyer, Queenio M'Lean. Edna Sexton. Joyce Peareon, Betty Menard, Lenore GarlandPyke, Ruby BoEeverr, Lawrence Searle, and Arthur Grant. Miss May Harris had a ballet-composed of Misses Kitty Blasall, Jean Mcnttplay, PhylJis Eeson. Raynor Stephens. Doris Organ, Phyllis Prcndßvilie, 'l.'ni Scwell, liita and Brenda- Clark, Hazel Kilroy, Pegay Baker, Jessie Wood, and Nancy Bavfield. Miss Estelle Bcore's own pupils
provided, the second half, of the matinee performance, opening with a Hungarian dance by Misses • Wynotte More Nola, Woods, Kathleen Hall, Eva Tomlinson, May Williams, Adriane Beere, Shirlev Dockett. Rita Hardy, Elsie Smith. Audray Keane. Among others who weTe seen in solo work were the Misses Valmai itell, Pesrsv Welch, Etta and Freida Bassir^ Phyllis Oliver, Mary Cameron, J°f" Bfere, Pat Gilmmer, Zelma Carroll, Bilhe Murphy, , Jean Coker, Aromea Searle, Nell Bosher. Florence Helworth, H-ene Zander, Sybil Hunter, Trixie Luka and Freda Smith. Dorothy Buck, and Lawrence- Searle. (pupil of Mrs. Menard). In the evening Miss Beere and Miss Helen Gardner had collaborated in tha presentation of a fine programme in which many of the afternoon successes were repeated. _ Among those who performed were: Misses Nanoya Baudinet, Trixie Luke, Whilma Joy, and others. Miss Gardner s studio was represented most creditably by the Misses Joyce Denison, Glennis Fenton, Hilary Henderson. Irene Wilson, Lily Charles, Sinclair Breen. rhelma Aitken, Ngaire Phipson, Joyec Julian. Ethel Brice. Edna Purdie, Zelma Carroll, Helen M'Lellan, and Martin Carrol, while Miss Mary Cooley recited. Tho frocking was most effective in harmony. An orchestra under Mrs. H. White provided incidental music.
