Mrs. Pankhurst, leader of the militanb .suffragette campaign, congratulated the I militant suffragettes who had damaged bhe golf green at Birmingham. This was ingenious, effective, and prominent, as the front benchersdn Parliament thought more of golf than of governing. The ■women were preparing all sorts of other effective strokes. A pillar-box was burnt in Northum-berland-avenue, and a large number of letters destroyed. Margaret Morrison was fined £20, or a month s imprisonment for throwing pepper at a const-able at Leven.
