WAIPA COLLIERIES
, PROGRESS OF THE "WORK, The t formation work on the Waipa Collieries' Company's line from NgarUawtthia to Te Akatea, about 6^ miles, is almost-, completed. At the moment the men. are .• working .-on the concreting of the viaducts and smaller bridges and driving piles for the Waipa bridge. Mr. D. M'Lean is at present in Sydney arranging for the necessary supplies of hardwood for bridge and other work. The formation work of tho mine incline should be finished in about six weeks. The rails ahd fastenings for the line, some 650 ' tons, were ,to have left London by trie steamer Pakeha on Ist Februaryi The coal screening plant has been Ordered through John Chambers and ,Son, Auckland, from Edgar Alleil and Co., Sheffield. The mine incline rails, mining machinery, mine tubs, and. brake machinery have all been ordered and are expected to arrive in '.New Zealand during the next four months. A locomotive has been built' for- the com--pany by Barclay and Co, A Glasgow, and will be shipped to New Zealand at the pnd of this irionth. There- Are substantial Wellington interests in the Waipa Collieries.
