SUDDEN DEATH AT SAILORS'
REST. WAS THERE DELAY IN OBTAINING A DOCTOR? The City Coroner (Dr. M' Arthur, S.M.), held an enquiry this afcernoon at tho Morgue into the circumstances of Iho deach of Charles Henry Loathan. Dr. Henry said he was called to the Sailors' Rest at 3 p.m. yesterday, when he found Leathan already dead. Death was apparently duo to rupture of an aneurism of the heart. Deceased, who was between 65 and 67 years of age, was a wharf labourer, and had been under the doctor for the past four years. Ho was discharged from the hospital only live weeks ago. Deceased suffered with his heart, and had done no jvork for the past four years. It appeared that deceased, while in the Labour-room, suddenly at about 2.40 began vomiting blood, and according to two witnecses, fellow-wharf labourer*, there was some delap in obtaining medical attention owing to the Harbour Board officials, it was alleged, declining to ring up. A verdict of death from heart disease was recorded. The coroner said ho wished ta add fchii rider: "That in all cases where life and death is at issue, the Harbour Board officials should at once telephono for medical assistance. There appeared- to have been some hesitation in doing this in the present cass."
