BAPTIST BIBLE-CLASS CAMP. GATHERING AT OHAKUNE.

A most successful camp was held by the North Island Baptist* Bible classes at* Ohakune during the Easter holidays, extending from Good Friday morning until Monday evening. There were present upwards of 130 delegates, and all were most op'timisiie with regard to the future of the union. Greetings were sent to the South Island camp and also to the Presbyterian and Methodist camps, which were in session at the same time. The sports' meeting to decide the holders of the Christie Shield, which was to have been held on the Saturday was postponed until Monday. The various contests were all well fought out', the shield eventually falling to the Mount Eden (Auckland) class. The morning meeting on Sunday was conducted in the local church by the Rev. A. S. Wilson, of Wanganui, his principal point being the claims of the Baptist Church upon its young men. The -address, which was an excellent one, was listened to with the greatest attention. The afternoon was given over to ) a testimony meeting, led by Mr. O'Connor, the retiring president. At the close of this meeting a most impressive service was held, at which three candidates were baptised in the river which skirted the canip, in full view of a large concourse of people. An open-air meeting was held at 6.15 p.m., after which the young men marched to the Town Hall, where a large gathering was addressed by Mr. W. B. Nicholson, of Petone. An oratorical I contest was won by Mr. Ray Price, of I Ohakune. Limelight views, depicting the horror& of opium-smoking, were shown on Saturday evening. In its business meeting the committee reported that the Wellington classes had contributed a further £52 to the Ohakuue mission and the Auckland classes about £60 to Home mission work in North Auckland. The constitution was revised, and the new executive requested to bring down a scheme for next year for tho proper us© of funds in the direction of assisting the Baptist Union in the placing of young men on one of the Home mission fields, on the Main Trunk line. * It was decided that headquarters be in Auckland this year. Mr. H. M. Smeeton was elected president, and Mr. Arthur Meade secretary. Mr. A. Hoby (Wellington) wa3 elected a life vice-president.

Major-General Codley, Commandant of tho Forces, accompanied by Captain Spencer-Smith, staff onicer, returned this morning from a visit of inspection to the Nelson, Marlborough, Westland, and Canterbui-y districts.
