THE ASSAM MURDERS.
PUNITIVE EXPEDITION POST- ! PONED. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received April 19, 9 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 18th April. The British expedition to punish the Abars tribesmen (in Assam), who murdered Mr. Noel Williamson (a British political officer) and members of his party, has been postponed until the autumn. [When news of the murders reached the Indian authorities a party of Bentinck's military police was despatched, but had to halt at Pashigat on account of swollen rivers, and it was then reported that the successful carrying out of the expedition would be impossible till the advent of the cold weather.]
