THE WEST COAST GOLD FIELDS.

ARRIVAL OF 2250 OUNCES FROM HOKLTIKA.

REPORTED LARGE FINDS.

10,500 OUNCES bHIPFED DIRECT TO MELBOURNE.

(From the Nelson Colonist, December 6.) There is not much news of importance by recent arrivals. The s.s. Kennedy on Friday evening brought 2250 ounces of gold from Hokitika, for the Union Bank, which small importation is accounted for by the fact that the Bank of New Zealand had just shipped 10,500 ounces by the s.s. South Australian, direct to Melbourne. The Hokitika Advertiser, of Ist December, has the following paragraph :—": — " A report waß in circulation yesterday that four men had come into town with 1200 ounces of gold in their possession, the proceeds of little more than three weeks 1 work, | and that the bank or banks at which they ' had offered it for sale would only give £3 12s per ounce, in consequence of its being so very dirty. It is said that the men at once returned to the Kanieri, where they had been offered £3 15s for the same large parcel. It was too late in the afternoon when the circumstance was related to us, to admit oi our making enquiries to satisfy us that the information was correct, and we give the news as little more than a vague report."
