A curious sign of the spread of English literature abroad is the fact that very recently some of the larger German booksellers have opened brand] establishments in this country for the purpose of collecting English books applicable for the continental market. Messrs. Asher and Co., of Berlin have established themselves in Convent-garden, and now Herr Brockhaus, of Leipzig, has opened a branch house in Paternoster-row. In some parts of the south of England it is reported that snakes are unpleasantly abundant, and we hear in other quarters of a plague of fleas.— Pall Mall Gazette.
