CITY BOARD.

The Board met yesterday at the offices, Lamb ton Quay, at four o'clock in the after* noon. Present :— Messrs. Hart (chairman), Dimmer, Quin, Mills, Bishop, Borlase, and Drunsflelil. The minutes of last meeting were coo? firmed. With reference to Mr. Edward Eager's claim, Mr. Borlase said it could not be entertained by the Board. A resolution containing the reasons why the Board could not do so, was agreewd to. Some discussion took place on Mr. Houghton's petition for the removal of » shed adjoining his house, which he complained of ' as being a public nuisance. The Board being of opinion that the nuisance complained of was of a private nature, declined to interfere with it. The Clerk was instructed to give notice to the butchers in the city to cease to slaughter cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs, within the town boundaries before the 14th of next month otherwise they shall be proceeded against according to law. The Clerk was also instructed to notify to persons having nuisances on their premises that if they did not remove them within seven days after such notice, they would be prosecuted. On the motion of Mr. dimmer, the Chair* man. Treasurer, and Mr. Borlase, were appointed a committee to. draw up a code of bye-laws. The City Surveyor's report stated that the nuisance complained of by Mr. Meech and others in the locality of Thorndon Quay had been removed, that an estimate of the probable cost of the repairs necessary to the road near the Superintendent's residence had been made, that an inspection of the slaughter house at Pipitea Point had been made, and it was found that the premises recently occupied by Mr. Wilton had been abandoned, ' and that the^ouse used by Mr. Luxford was kept in a clean and proper manner ; thai Mr. Bright's boiling-down establishment was a r gruat nuisance, and th:it shopkeepers n,e . requested to remove,, the obstructions made by them on the footpaths by placing various articles of merchandise thereon. Th<> consideration of the report was left to tho next meeting. The Board adjourned at 6 o'clock.
