MAJOR YON TEMPSKY.
< In the Legislative Council, yesterday, the Hon. Mr. Hall said that as there was a rumour that at this important time the Government had lost the services of a very valuable, officer, and that as there was ' also a rumour about very disgraceful con* duct on the part of some bf the Colonial forces, he hoped the Government would give the Council some information on the matter. The Hon. the Colonial Secretary said that he, presumed the hon. member referred to Major Yon Tempsky. There were a good many particulars that be could not go into in this matter, but he thought that the Council would agree that the Government had acted rightly when the details of the matter were laid before them on a future day. The Government had thought it better not to put Major Yon Tempsky in command of the force at the East Coast — an appointment which he had seemed to expect — and he therefore had tendered his resignation, which was not immediately accepted, as it was supposed there would have been some difficulty in getting his men to go without their officer. He did not feel at liberty to speak fully on the subject at present, or to say what wi>s the exact course which would betaken by the Government on the matter.— Advertiser.
