ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. ALBION FROM NELSON.

The Albion arrived at noon to-day, bring* ing Nelson papers published thiVmofning. This day's Examiner fears that the steamef New Zealand, which left Nelson last week, is to be added to the number of wrecks which have taken place at the Hokitika She had a large and most valuable cargo on board, very little of which was understood to be insured. From the Kelson Examiner of the 10th August ;—; — By the arrival of the Lyttelton late last evening, we hear of the safe arrival of the steamer Eleanor at Hokitika on Saturday morning last. The Lyttelton left Hokitika for the Grey with a full cargo. The Grey bar is said to be very good fo* the season of the year t channel straight,, No fresh in the river. While at the Grey, a report was circulated that the steamship New Zealand was on the bar at Hokitika, but we have no authentic information on this matter, and trust it may prove to be unfounded. The Wallaby had discharged her cargo at the Grey, and is expected to have reached Hokitika by this time. The rush to the Grey still continues ; and the Eleanor will load at Hokitika for the Grey. His Honour the Superintendent is said to have gone to the Twelve-mile rush. The Ruby has been washed off the spit at Hokitika. The weather was tolerably good at the Hokitika. The Colonist of yesterday gives the following s— " While the s.s. Auckland still lay at Taranaki, and just before her leaving for this port, intelligence arrived of the total loss of the s.s. Alexandra, Government transport, on some rocks off the White Cliffs. The particulars which have reached us are but scanty* She is said to huve been in the hands of the pilot at the time of the disaster, and in con* sequence of her having hugged the land too closely she struck on a sunken reef and had to be quickly abandoned. Her passengers were saved, but the casualty appears to have been too sudden aud complete to have allowed of even their baggage fefog saved.
